Pete's Story:

Pete’s first memories of the vineyard business consist of bouncing around with his father, Tom, in a 4x4 jeep. Tom was on a quest to find limestone hills near the ocean, a combination he believed would yield world-class wines.

Once Pete and Tom found what they were looking for, Pete grew up alongside the slow, experimental development of the Ballard Canyon Estate. Meeting with consultant Alberto Antonini and spending time with Winemaker Sashi Moorman laid the groundwork for his understanding of boutique fine wine.

After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business and working in Sales Management in Los Angeles, Pete decided to fully devote himself to wine. He worked under Rolf Binder and Kym Tuesner in the Barossa Valley, making Shiraz and other Rhone varietals and then continued his production experience at Villa Mangiacane in Chianti Classico.

Upon returning to California, Pete worked under Advanced Sommelier Christopher Lavin at L’Opera and then under Master Sommelier Peter Neptune at the Henry Wine Group. Through the WSET Advanced curriculum at Henry, and the chance to represent some of the best Import Portfolios in America, Pete refined his international palate. In 2008 Pete was awarded Fine Wine Specialist of the Year, and in April of 2009, made the switch to work for his family’s vineyard and winery full time.
