Ancient Peaks

The 2009 Zinfandel opens with bright aromas of crushed raspberry and blueberry with hints of white pepper. The raspberry impression continues on the palate along with jammy flavors of red cherry and boysenberry. Juicy acidity lingers on a bright, spicy finish. Cuisine Pairing: The lively, juicy character of the 2009 Zinfandel is a fine match for Santa Maria-style barbecue, spicy grilled chicken, gourmet Italian sausage and skirt steak fajitas.

Wine Spectator

Ripe and appealingly jammy, with cherry pie and spiced vanilla aromas following through to zesty flavors of raspberry, roasted sage and pepper. Drink now through 2017. 2,009 cases made.

Score: 88. —Tim Fish, April 30, 2012.

Wine Enthusiast

The weaknesses of this wine are excessively evident alcohol and extracted berry fruit that make it taste jammy and sweet. But it’s a good example of the ultraripe Paso style, with supporting acidity and tannins, and a high drinkability factor.

Score: 84. —Steve Heimoff, February 01, 2012.
