To all our friends & customers:

After much deliberation and thought, Rachael and I have sold San Clemente Wine Company. We’ve made this decision due to knowing that we now need to place our family needs above our business and will soon be travelling back to Louisiana and Virginia. And so it’s time to start another adventure in our lives…

The new owners are Jeff & Stacey Lloyd, newcomers to San Clemente from Northern California, and they’re keeping the name and most of the same formats in the shop and on this web site. They have an incredible amount of energy and will bring new life and welcome changes to the business. We hope you’ll continue your amazing support and will help Jeff and Stacey through the learning curve of their new business.

So for the next couple weeks, we will not be able to process any web site orders. We apologize for any inconvenience, but there needs to be some down-time and re-organization during the transistion of ownership…

We want to thank all of you for an amazing six years – we had a lot of fun, drank & shipped a lot of great wine, made a lot of new friends, and worked damn hard – we’re proud and grateful for all of it.

Thanks again for everything!

Wishing you all the best,

Barney & Rachael Doyle

Eponymous

Year in year out the hallmark of the wine that the grapes from this vineyard allow us to make is the beautifully expressive aromas and elegant, balanced mouthfeel. To me this is the essence of a fine red wine/Bordeaux blend. The 2008 vintage, although slightly more challenging than most, did not disappoint. The complexity and intensity of the aromas are evident from the moment the cork is popped. Aromas hinting of red fruit, raspberries and cherries, along with orange peel, and spicy oak notes add to the enjoyment. It has more than sufficient body and structure with added flavors of vanilla and chocolate. Lively, bright, and balanced flavors are evidenced on the palate, with a long satisfying finish.

Wine Enthusiast

There’s something lusty about this wine. It’s the strong berry, cherry and chocolate flavors, combined with powerful tannins and an immediately delicious umami taste. Seems best now.

Score: 89. —Steve Heimoff, August 01, 2011.

Wine Spectator

Firm, dry and savory, with a pebbly graphite edge to the dried berry, sage, rust and cedar notes. Full-bodied, ending with drying tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2018. 1,026 cases made.

Score: 87. —James Laube, 2011.
